Usenet
Usenet newsgroups have always been where the most interesting part of the Internet experience has been. Haven't gotten into the habit of reading Usenet? No? Understandable, It is a little harder to use. But your computer is probable set up to read it right now! Try some of these and you might just get hooked!
news:alt.fan.cecil-adams Doesn't matter if you don't know who Cecil Adams is. This group is where the "teeming millions" hang out to ask and answer about any question under the sun (the more obscure, the better). You will learn something here.
news:alt.humor.best-of-usenet There are over 60,000 newsgroups out there, humanly impossible to read everything. So not to miss any jems of humor a group was created to collect the funny stuff in one place. Moderated so Just the GOOD STUFF!!
news:alt.tech-support.recovery Have you ever tried to explain something you knew about to someone who didn't have a clue? Remember the frustation? This is the place that Techies go to Vent. Stories about users, coworkers and bosses. (better than Dilbert comics)
There are a couple of Web sites that you can read Usenet from.
DejaNews or RemarQ I use these when I want to search everywhere for a particular keyword. Suprisingly good, imput your hometown and see what is going on in your backyard!
Shareware
Here is some of the Shareware or Freeware that I like using.
Acdsee Image Viewer This is the program that I use for all my graphic viewing.
Forte Free Agent Is the best way to read Usenet newsgroups. (doesn't work with AOL)
Home Planet An astronomical orrery Freeware
Paradise Poker You need real people to play real poker. This program lets you play poker on the internet. Risk play or real money, great way to learn how to play
My present computer started off as a barebones PCCHIPS Super socket-7 Motherboard with case. In it I installed an Intel P266MMX and 96Meg SDRAM
I built this site as a hobby and it has been a learning experience. I use notepad to tweak it but for ease of
use I have found that Cutepage is a very nice authoring tool. (It is free, Too)
and easier to use than Frontpage.
To Upload files to the server CuteFTP Is easy to learn.
