A Poem
When I went from affair to affair
Feeling inadequate, rejected and bare
It was your - Love -I was searching for
All along.
When I dulled my brain to still my mind,
Smoking dope or drinking heaps of wine
It was your - Peace - I was searching for
All along.
When I lashed out in anger, or was silenced by fear
Too scared to let anyone near
It was your - Compassion -I was looking for
All along.
When I worked my fingers to the bone,
To gain wealth and status, a name of my own,
It was your - Name -I was searching for
All along.
When I looked to the moon or the stars for direction
Or created a God of my own,
It was your - Truth -I was searching for
All along.
When I searched and searched to find "myself"
Yet knew I did'nt belong
It was your - Adoption -I was searching for
All along.
When I blamed the world, my situation or spouse
For my failure, my guilt and my doubt
It was your - Forgiveness -I was searching for
All along.
When my life had lost all meaning and hope
And death seemed the only way to go
It was your - Life -I was searching for
All along.
Finally
Cornered and trapped with nowhere to turn
And faced with the depth of my sin
I opened the door and you moved in.
You forgave my sin and gave me your life,
You filled me with love and made me your child.
Then - all at once - I knew I'd been wrong
For you had been there - all along.
You are now my Savior, my Lord and my life,
You are Jesus, Gods Son, the one crucified,
You were raised from the dead and seated above
Where I sit with you, embraced in your love.
Never again
Do I have to search
For in you I was found
And given new birth.
