Lake Tanganyika
is the second deepest lake in the world. It is approx. 670km long and
up to 80km wide (average width is 50km). The maximum depth of the lake
is 1470m. It covers 32,900km
2. It is
surrounded by four countries: Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania,
Zambia and Burundi. Only the top 200m of the lake are habitable to
fish. The temperature in Lake Tanganyika ranges from about 23-28°C
(73-82°F). The pH ranges from 8.5-9.3.
